Out With The Old, In With The New

Ah, the week between Christmas and New Year's has arrived--perhaps one of the best times for cleaning my office and for reorganizing my home life as well. As I begin to put away all of the wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) gifts that I received for Christmas, I hear (my client) Bill Valentine's mantra of voluntary simplicity playing through my head and begin to contemplate (as I often do when overwhelmed by all the clutter in my life) whether I really need all this stuff.

So, in the spirit of out with the old and in with the new, my boyfriend's "honey do" list now includes taking our old oven/stove and several bags of clothing to the Salvation Army because the organization is so busy it can't pick up for 2-3 weeks. I hope that means that there are a number of other Atlantans with the same intentions and not just that the organization is understaffed. (For those of you looking to get rid of major household appliances, the Salvation Army seems to be one of the few charitable organizations that accepts such items.)

If this relatively quiet time finds you looking for ways to spend your time or places to donate your unwanted items that are still in good condition (maybe even a few freshly unwrapped presents), visit the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta's web site: http://www.unitedwayatlanta.org/d0-donate_get_involved.asp. There you'll find a variety of local charities that will take your gently-used office supplies, clothing, furniture and other household goods.

Happy cleaning,
Dana

How Do You Spell That?

You learn a lot listening to all your colleagues spelling their names out loud, as we had to do today. The lucky ones needed no explanation: "Shannon Brown." I sat across from "Jennifer J-e-z as in zebra-y-k," and next to "Jennifer Hudson, spelled with a d," which of course it is unless you also work with "Heather Hutson, spelled with a t." So on the second go-round, Jenn said "Hudson-like-the-river." But my favorite explanation was from my next-office-over neighbor, "Jennifer Babbit, like rabbit with a b."

Signed,
Carol Milliron (spelled Mill-iron, like the two words, only no one ever says it right on the first try)

Wel.come!

Welcome to the Edelman Atlanta blog -- a virtual clearinghouse of all-things-Atlanta. We're talking about everything from nightspots and community events to even the nitty gritty watercooler talk that happens at a busy PR firm. This was started by a native Californian yankee and quickly taken over by brave members of this office.

Pardon the dust, y'all.
